Today marks an exciting day as gyms/studios re-open in Victoria post COVID-restrictions, one-day shy of being three months since MOVE's last training sessions on March 23rd. As MOVE continues to be closed, more on that to come... I thought I'd share some thoughts as many of you venture back, or to new gyms/studios to resume exercise after a period where perhaps movement didn't flow so freely. My big and overarching thoughts are; firstly hold space and practice kindness, #KINDNESS to yourself & those around you, if you've lost your way or motivation during isolation, remind yourself you are not alone.
Whilst i'm extremely lucky to have my studio at home; during isolation this did not translate into gruelling sessions and training up a storm. Yes I trained a lot, and many passed comment "you're going to come out of #iso ripped, when in reality this couldn't have been further from the truth, as like so many lifting heavy with purpose and structure was far from mind.
Accepting setbacks is part of the journey for all of us and our ability to feel and be, riding the waves reminds us of our humanness. To move forward we need to remind ourseles that our worthiness is not tied to how we physically look, and it's 1000 times ok if you ate a little too much choclate over the past few months and if NETFLIX became your new BFF, no need for self-sabotage -O.K! - Life Happens.
When returning to excercise be patient; the most important thing you can do is lose the ego, forget the number on the scale, the number on the bar, and just start by showing up, focusing on movement and being consistent. Focus on things that you can control, mindfullness, movement, nutrition, sleep & hydration all whilst finding what your new rhythm is, especially if you have made the decision to slow down. Whilst it would be extremely easy to fall back into #BUSY be mindful of what you're rushing back too.
And in closing, make sure the environment you choose to train in supports your journey, respects where you're at and celebrates YOU. Whilst it's still some time before MOVE will re-open, im excited for our industry and for you reading this.
